Tangier.  36" X 24" X 2"  Mixed Media on fine art paper laminated to a wood panel. Framed and ready to hang

“Tangier is one of the few places left in the world where, so long as you don't proceed to robbery, violence, or some form of crude, antisocial behavior, you can do exactly what you want.”  - William S. Burroughs

In the captivating piece titled "Tangier," a mystical scene unfolds before the viewer, immersing them in a realm where tradition and vivacity converge. This artwork, a fusion of mixed media that gracefully dances between the realms of color and texture, beckons with its vibrant celebration of cultural richness.

Seven stately women command the canvas, their elongated figures draped in an array of bold, intricate dresses that whisper stories of far-off lands and ancient customs. Each figure is crowned with a magnificent head wrap, accentuating their regal presence, while some balance baskets overflowing with the bounties of nature upon their heads—fruits, vivid and ripe, hinting at the sustenance and abundance of their world.

My mixed media paintings consist of acrylic paint and digital collage. They are painted on museum quality archival paper and then laminated to a cradled wood panel, varnished, waxed and then framed in a black floater frame. Each piece begins as a digital study on an iPad where the basic composition and coloring is determined before the hand painted original is started.
