Summer of Love - Original Painting
“Summer of Love” 40” X 30” X 2” Mixed Media on a Cradled Wood Panel, Framed
Inspired by the dreamy, sensual atmosphere of Time of the Season by The Zombies, Summer of Love captures the vibrant spirit of the late 1960s—a time defined by freedom, self-expression, and a belief that music could change the world. The song's hypnotic rhythm and iconic invitation to embrace the moment are translated into a kaleidoscope of color, pattern, and personality, creating a visual celebration of an era that continues to inspire generations.
The painting brings together a group of stylized figures immersed in a world of swirling psychedelic forms, oversized flowers, and radiant bursts of color. Their sunglasses, flowing hair, and relaxed poses evoke the counterculture movement, while the vivid floral motifs symbolize growth, peace, and the blossoming of new ideas. The bold palette of electric pinks, brilliant blues, sunny yellows, and vibrant purples mirrors the sensory richness of the music and culture that defined the Summer of Love.
At the heart of the composition is a sense of connection. The figures appear united by a shared experience, reflecting the song's themes of attraction, curiosity, and living fully in the present. The swirling patterns and layered imagery create a dreamlike quality, blurring the line between reality and imagination, much like the evocative lyrics and atmospheric sound of Time of the Season.
Emotionally, Summer of Love evokes feelings of joy, nostalgia, and liberation. It invites viewers to remember a time—or imagine one—when optimism seemed limitless and every day held the promise of discovery. There is a playful energy throughout the piece, but also a deeper sense of longing for connection, authenticity, and human togetherness.
Like the song that inspired it, Summer of Love celebrates the beauty of being present in the moment. It is a tribute to youthful idealism, creative freedom, and the enduring power of music to bring people together, reminding us that every generation has its own season of possibility.

This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of “The British Invasion”, a series of mixed media paintings inspired by music from The British Invasion with architecture serving as a vessel for unseen narratives. Each work aims to evoke the stories and emotions hidden beneath the surface, inviting viewers to look beyond the obvious and discover the deeper layers within.
The British Invasion refers to the mid-1960s surge of British rock and pop artists who dramatically reshaped the sound and culture of rock and roll in the United States and around the world. Sparked by the explosive popularity of The Beatles after their 1964 arrival in America, the movement brought a new energy to rock music by blending American rhythm and blues with fresh songwriting, style, and attitude. Other influential bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks followed, helping redefine youth culture, fashion, and live performance. The British Invasion revitalized rock and roll and set the stage for many of the musical innovations that shaped modern popular music.
