Regatta - Original Painting

Regatta - Original Painting

"Regatta" 24" X 30" X 2"  Mixed Media on fine art paper laminated to a wood panel. Framed and ready to hang

Regatta presents a carefully structured maritime scene rendered through a language of geometric shapes and flat color planes. Drawing on the artist’s deep background with boats and sailing, the composition abstracts the familiar energy and rhythm of a sailing regatta into a vibrant interplay of form and color. Multiple sailboats are depicted as overlapping triangles in a spectrum of vibrant hues, from warm oranges and yellows to cool greens and purples, capturing the dynamic movement and variety found in a lively race on the water.

Two silhouetted figures in the foreground, simplified and minimal in detail, evoke the human presence and experience aboard these boats—one shielding their gaze from the sun, the other suggesting a hand on the tiller—anchoring the scene in lived knowledge of sailing life.

Through abstraction, the artist distills the essence of a sailing regatta, using geometric form and color to translate firsthand familiarity into a balanced, energetic composition that reflects both the spirit of competition and the nuanced spatial relationships encountered on the water.

My mixed media paintings consist of acrylic paint and digital collage. They are painted on museum quality archival paper and then laminated to a cradled wood panel, varnished, waxed and then framed in a black floater frame. Each piece begins as a digital study on an iPad where the basic composition and coloring is determined before the hand painted original is started.
