“Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
Wet beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back…” - The Beatles
This painting is a vibrant and abstract representation, evoking the whimsical and nostalgic vibe of the Beatles song "Penny Lane." The artwork captures the essence of everyday life described in the song. The playful arrangement of buildings and mosaic-like facial features echoes the vivid and dynamic imagery Lennon and McCartney painted through their lyrics, reflecting a bustling, familiar street scene that is both dreamlike and rooted in reality.
In "Penny," I explore the subtle merging of identity and environment through two overlapping profiles fractured into geometric shapes. Earth tones ground the composition, while architectural textures and abstract windows weave into the faces, suggesting a quiet dialogue between what is human and what is built.
This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of "Faces and Facades," a series of mixed media paintings where people and places intertwine, with architecture serving as a vessel for unseen narratives. Inspired by characters from Beatles songs, each work aims to evoke the stories and emotions hidden beneath the surface, inviting viewers to look beyond the obvious and discover the deeper layers within.
The image is printed on museum quality archival paper and highlighted with acrylic paint and ink. It is then laminated to a cradled wood panel, varnished, waxed and framed in a black wood floater frame..
