“Maxwell Edison, majoring in medicine, Calls her on the phone, Can I take you out to the pictures, Joan?" - The Beatles
In "Maxwell," I explore an urban landscape where geometry and solitude converge beneath a quiet, steady gaze. The city rises in muted blues and grays, broken by a textured brick tower that anchors the space amid scattered figures—shadows moving through a complex terrain.
"Maxwell's Silver Hammer," a song by The Beatles, presents a quirky yet dark narrative about a character with a penchant for unexpected violence, blending cheerful melodies with macabre themes. This painting with its abstract cityscape and stylized figures, is inspired by the song's juxtaposition of charm and unsettling elements. The lone figure standing apart symbolizes Maxwell himself—detached yet central, overseeing the chaotic world below.
This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of "Faces and Facades," a series of mixed media paintings where people and places intertwine, with architecture serving as a vessel for unseen narratives. Inspired by characters from Beatles songs, each work aims to evoke the stories and emotions hidden beneath the surface, inviting viewers to look beyond the obvious and discover the deeper layers within.
My mixed media paintings consist of acrylic paint and digital collage. They are painted on museum quality archival paper and then laminated to a cradled wood panel, varnished, waxed and then framed in a black floater frame.
